This is the end of IH Waterpolo. At least for now. Until next year that is. Finals was Hall 6 vs Hall 3. Hall 6 was quite a formidable team, with much training under their belt, and players who were huge! Before the match I was expecting us to lose quite badly, and me and zhiyong had planned some stunts to pull should we be losing. Haha. Cheeky Zhiyong, never fails to amuse me with all his funny ideas.
During the match itself, we surprisingly did very well! We opened the scoring, and hall 6 matched us for every goal we scored. When they tried to pull open the lead, we did not allow that. I would say credit should go to Zhiyong and Wende for swimming so much and scoring the goals, and Zi An for his superb goalkeeping skills. Of course, not forgetting the other players who made it possible. And the supporters too. In the end, we were tied 6-6 and going into extra time which consisted of 2 halves of 3 mins. At the end of extra time, the score was 7-7, so we went into golden goal. Sadly, due to some miscommunication, or referee oversight, we lost 8-7. I heard from the rest of the team later that Ben took a foul at 7m, but before he shot, he flicked the ball and held the ball for more than 3 seconds, which meant the goal should be disallowed. But shit happens, so both referees said they didn't see it. Just like that, we lost the gold.
It's not the losing that sucks really. We did much better than expected already. But I didn't want it to end this way, on a controversial note. I believe Zhiyong felt that way too. Could see the disappointment in his face after the match. But like I said, shit happens. So that's how it ended. After that went for lunch with DU gang and the polo peeps, and had a mini wing steamboat at night.
