Amsterdam

Realised I super long never blog. Partly cos I've been lazy. So I'm back in Jonkoping after doing a mini tour of Europe. Went to Amsterdam and London. Decided not to flood my blog with photos like other blogs. Must be more original. So I shall list the more memorable stuff of my trip, in no order of priority, just how I remember it.

1. The service at KFC in Amsterdam sucks. At least the one I went to. The cashiers were yelling at customers, and giving them a very bad attitude. Really shocked me how lousy service can get.

2. Red light district in Amsterdam is not as dangerous as it sounds. Me and xh ended up visiting it over and over again to oogle at the girls and to bitch about them. Never knew we could be so bitchy.

3. Wok to walk! One of the best meals in my trip. Though we ate it for 3 days consecutively. It's a funny little chinese food eatery where you can choose the staple (eg: rice or noodles), then choose what ingredients to add to it (eg: chicken, pork, mushrooms, pineapple, PEANUTS?) and then finally choose the sauce. Turns out it was quite good! And the boxes are quite cute.

4. I was quite impressed with how the Dutch got around certain laws. Like there was a law that sex shows can't sell alcohol. So what do these smart businessmen do? They offer you FREE alcohol, but they rent you the cup.

5. Went for the walking tours around the city centre which was really eye opening as it offered me an insight into the city's history. Really nice. Anyone going to Amsterdam should go for the walking tour. It's really good, especially with a funny guide. My day guide was Basilo, a super tall guy. By tall, I mean I was up to his shoulders ONLY. The red light district guide was Sean, a really entertaining and animated guide.

6. Stayed in a caravan style hostel. Was nice, but the hostel was a bit out of the way. Let me show you an example of the hostel:

7. Dutch pancakes are really like big pratas. It's not your Mac hotcakes kind of pancakes. It's HUGE!!!

8. Windmills in Amsterdam aren't that spectacular. At least the one I went to. Quite disappointed by it actually. Stupid guide at the tourist office. Told us that this windmill is comparable to the one at Rotterdam. But it's not. I expected a windmill with nice green grass. This is what I got instead:
9. The Dutch have some really interesting structures. I'm sure most of you know that Amsterdam, or rather Netherlands itself is below sea level, so there are lots of canals and bridges in Amsterdam itself. We were introduced to Amsterdam's widest bridge, and next to it was Amsterdam's narrowest house. In case you can't tell, it's the red house behind the red car. And we were standing on the widest bridge.

10. We went to Keukenhoff, which was a huge park outside Amsterdam. Lots of nice flowers and weird animals. Saw this white furry chicken like animal. No idea what it is either. There was also a structure of a couple making out which I couldn't resist taking a photo of.

This ends my post about Amsterdam. Shall blog about London when I am feeling less lazy.
