So i begin my post about my long break due to China's national day. Basically it was a non stop buffet thanks to my uncle's family who brought us around China. Minimal sights seen, maximum gastrointestinal heaven.
Day 1:
Breakfast: 城隍庙小笼包 at the famous 南翔 restaurant. To my housemates, we went to the wrong restuarant the last time!
lunch: 新吉士, literally translated to Sunkist. Had quite good but expensive Shanghainese food.
After lunch we went to Wuxi for a wonderful foot massage at 圣子.
dinner: uber food, EXCELLENT 4 course degustation meal with lots of complimentary items from the chef, Ralph, who has 2 Michilin (did I spell it correctly?) stars!!! The food was one of the best I have eaten in my whole life.
Day 2:
breakfast: 永和豆浆
After breakfast we headed off to Hangzhou. Checked into our hotel which was just beside 西湖, then set off to walk around the lake and then eat some more!
lunch: 麒麟,a restaurant which we found by accident thanks to Mum who saw the sign from far far away and decided to go try. The food turned out to be surprisingly good!
After lunch, we went for a slow and relaxing boat ride in 西湖, then back to hotel to rest a while before going for a WONDERFUL show called 印象西湖,directed by Zhang Yimou and music composed by Kitaro. A very majestic, yet artistic show which was put up ON 西湖. Definitely worth going back to watch again.
dinner: italian restaurant which wasn't too good.
Day 3:
breakfast: at hotel (sucks)
lunch: 澳门豆捞
After lunch we headed back to Wuxi for 圣子 foot massage! Again!
dinner: 大闸蟹+嘉兴肉棕+ lots of great red wine + lots of bombay sapphire gin + beer = high me!
Day 4:
breakfast: cantonese restaurant
Then we went to see the big buddha at Wuxi, where my uncle joined us. Somehow he can pon work at 11 in the morning to join us. The perks of being a GM...
lunch: Claypot Prawn Porridge which was special in a good sort of way.
Next, we set off for Suzhou after lunch.
dinner: 789 steamboat beside 金鸡湖, which was memorable cos you had to make your own sauce from a wide selection of readily available sauces. My sauce sucked, so the dinner wasn't that great for me.
Day 5:
breakfast: 100 yr old shop wuxi prawn wanton, chaotic place but nice food.
We then headed off to Nanjing!
lunch: italian food bella napoli, which was MUCH MUCH better than the one in Hangzhou. The pizza was excellent, seafood pasta was very fresh, and seafood rice was great. Soup was excellent as well.
After lunch we went for a 2 hour full body massage at this famous massage place in Nanjing that needed prior booking. Shiok!!!
In between lunch and dinner we had cream puff, duck's tongue, gelato, ice cream float and 鸭血粉丝汤.
dinner: porridge steamboat, again something which cannot be found in Singapore. The steamboat has some rice in it, to make the soup not that watery. And at the end of the meal, you pour porridge in to suck up the 精华 of the soup. DELICIOUS!!!
At night, I went to 泡温泉 in my hotel room! Was inside for a full 1 hour, just relaxing and eating chestnuts. Very relaxing.
Day 6:
breakfast/lunch: 彩蝶璇 ZEN, great Cantonese restaurant. But the service wasn't that good, which greatly affected my mood to eat.
圣子 foot massage AGAIN!
dinner: sichuan cuisine
Day 7:
breakfast: at uncle's house
lunch: 新吉士 at Pudong. The food here is better, since we ordered more dishes as compared to the 1st time.
Then it was finally time to send my parents off and head back home. End of my wonderful food journey. Time to give my stomach a break. I shall add in the photos when I get them, and if I am not lazy. Haha.
